Northeast Georgia Direct Difference Maker February 2014

This Month’s Northeast Georgia Direct Difference Maker comes from Bowman. Nestled in the heart of the Bowman City Square is Coffee Junction. The proprietors of this respectable establishment are Jack and Sara Schatz, and they are this month’s NEGA Direct’s Difference Maker. Jack and Sara have been catalysts for the arts by offering the citizens of Bowman and surrounding areas an opportunity to express themselves through song, spoken word, and picture. They accredit Bruce and Amy Neese for inspiring them with the initial vision for the open mic night.  However, when the Neese’s moved on to other things, it was Jack, Sara, and a group of faithful volunteers, consisting of Keith and Dakota Holmes (sound and staging team) and Margaret O’Neil (emcee) who would carry the event forward. “The pressure isn’t here, but the community is ...,” says Mrs. Schatz. And that statement bears volumes of truth for anyone who has been to a Coffee Junction open mic, because it feels like family. Coffee Junction also showcases the works of local painters, sculptors, and photographers, with talents such as Jennifer Clements, Ralph Rae, Rosemary Schatz, and Angie Rooker gracing the walls of the shop.  Jack and Sara have created a venue where people of all ages, races, and backgrounds can come together and enjoy the arts and each other.
